My first impression of the book was how entirely gorgeous it is; the covers are artworks, the paper is thick, the font is pleasing and the size is just so unusual: square and begging to be gift-wrapped.
There are twenty-two stories in total, each tiny, complete slivers of life. The reader slices through at a tangent: details, snatches of conversation, brushstroke backgrounds are picked up on the way past.
Several of the stories spin around experimental concepts: a mechanical woman finds her perfect mate; a woman vomits animals; a gardener talks to his flowers, who listen; a man just fades away. You are trusted to not need explanation. For me they work as stories… Read more
This was fun! The DVD breaks each dance right down into its component parts and then plays it in full so you can dance along with the couple (with a reminder of the steps at the bottom of the screen). I'd never done any formal dancing before and after a couple of watches I was able to have a decent go at the dances. There are lots of hints and tips so it took a few times of repeating each dance section before I really started to absorb them all.
`First Dance Fever' is definitely aimed at beginners; I think anyone who knew what they were doing would find it slow. I'd recommend it to anyone who has been inspired by `Strictly Come Dancing' to try out some ballroom dance moves… Read more
