To my ears this isn't as good as their early dEUS, not quite as good but it is very close. To be honest the first couple of dEUS albums will always be favourites and it would be difficult for something new to knock them off that top spot.
It starts with the beautifully orchestrated title track which is as good as anything they've done. dEUS + Orchestra = shivers down spine levels of goodness! Through the single 'Constant now' and to the last track 'Easy' most of songs have a big sound which is in keeping with recent output - but probably better than Vantage point (and I like Vantage point alot!) Tom Barman's voice is as good as ever and just seems to get richer with time. There… Read more
Now I admit I'm a big fan of the Cure. I've seen them live many times and own album they've released. Having said that I'm not blind to the fact that the last couple of CD's (Bloodflowers/The Cure) were only OK at best and frankly so dark and down they didn't warrant repeated listens. 4:13 dream changes all that. The Cure - Well Robert Smith - seems to have got his/their mojo back. He sound's like he's enjoying himself again.
There is a good variety of tracks on 4:13. From almost pop of the singles released to the screaming guitar-god ROCK of The Reason Why. Its overall effect is a well rounded classic Cure album that deserves attention from both existing fans and a new audience… Read more
I pretty amazed that after such a long time apart James can come back together and produce an album of such quality. I think the most important feature of this recording is that it still sounds so much like they James of old. Sure they've moved on but the new songs really hold their own against their back catalogue (and that's quite a back catalogue)
While there is probably one filler on the album the rest of the tracks are simply breathtaking - particularly the title track Hey Ma and even more so Whiteboy.
There are plenty of new bands around that should have a listen to this and realise the level of musical ability that they should be aiming for.
