Stephen and Matilda: Civil War of 1139-53 (History&hellip by Jim Bradbury
5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent value, 25 Nov 2013
An excellent, compact history of a turbulent period - Jim Bradbury keeps an open mind yet presents fresh insights into a confused series of events and personalities, including the revelation of the anarchy consisting of a series of sieges rather than pitched battles.
The Parisi (Peoples of Roman Britain) by Herman Ramm
5.0 out of 5 stars The Parisi, 25 Nov 2013
An interesting book with wide coverage of the subject matter and a useful introduction to the iron age people of the East Riding. Probably now eclipsed by Peter Hakon's excellent, scholarly but very readable book.
Planting with Trees (Hillier Gardener's Guide) by Andrew McIndoe
Well written and and packed with interesting planting ideas and associations. This book manages to balance a good level of detail on individual trees with maintaining the amateur gardener's interest and enthusiasm through avoiding a sterile, academic approach! Very refreshing
