A fun read for me and my 3 year old daughter. The words flow really well, the story quite charming and it has some exciting onomatopoeias which we both enjoy. The illustrations complement everything nicely.
This is a brief (106 or so pages) character study written in the voice of Mary, mother of Jesus. Toibin manages to create a compelling voice that definitely feels true. It is a moving portrait of maternal love and loss coupled with mistrust of men and the possiblities that open up when men group together. It is written in deceptively simple prose which packs an emotional punch.
An album that I was rather suspicious of at first; being a fan of Junior leads one to think that no-one can really do him justice. Not even the impressive array of artists on display here. However I have to say that I was very pleasantly surprised by this effort. Most tributes have at least a couple of duffers that besmirch rather than honour those they are paying tribute to. This album fortunately does not suffer from that. It is a good introduction for the uninitiated and fans will appreciate it too. Well worth buying.
