Genesis Revisited: Live at Hammersmith is nothing short of a triumph. I enjoyed his first outing with a Genesis Revisited back in the late 90's and I play it a lot. His latest output of the Genesis Revisited II is just stunning and should be a huge joy for the longer term Genesis fan. This live concert CD/DVD of the Genesis Revisited tour recorded at the Hammersmith Apollo is even better. Brilliant sound captures a band on top of its game. All of the selected tracks are just so good. The highlight for me is Supper's Ready. This was a very pleasant surprise. A revamped Mechanics that springs on you a great list of songs. There is a distinct style that comes out the Mike and the Mechanics and this one really does hark back to early Mechanics - even the use of a children's choir. Distinctive keyboard and guitar work and a strong mix of vocal styles hit the spot. I think Mike's new team, while not adventurous in any musical direction, will satisfy the fans. Nice one Mike and well done new Mechanics.

I have long admired Steve Hackett's studio work and have also enjoyed a lot of his live material. I particularly enjoyed "The Tokyo Tapes" from the late 90's. Of his recent work, "Out of the Tunnel's Mouth" blew me away and the very personal edge to many of the songs on that album gave it such an intensity. Like a good wine he just improves with age. "Live Rails" is a triumph. What I really like is the way Hackett gathers to himself such great musicians that provide him with a capacity to put over such great songs and instrumentals of such quality. I am really enjoying this album and like all of Hackett's work I know that I will revisit this many times in the future with great pleasure… Read more
