Cyborg girl has it all plus a little extra.
I really like the heroines in Japanese films.
So often heroines are merely foils for the big shot male lead, but Japanese movies have real credible heroines.
Haruka Ayase is of course gorgeous as usual! She is more like a female Data definitely not a Terminator.
The special effects are integral to the narrative and are not exaggerated or absurd.
Just when you think the film is about to end there is more.... and it's quite unexpected.

This isn't just about a robot girl there is also a real girl and you won't figure that out until the end.

disk1 is best, the others are very good too.
All stories are similar in nature, with Edo Policeman Hanzo refusing to kow tow to authority, and all include references to the Japanese martial arts in relation to Hanzo's colossal Johnson.
Typically Japanese, in the sense that it is not corrupted by religious sentiment.The middle Eastern religions that have infected us for centuries make westerners take a hypocritical moral stance on every aspect of life. The Japanese are so refreshingly free of that bilge and can make funny crazy films that would not be tolerated here. ...

PLEASE NOTE: this French import DVD set is in English by default although it can play other languages.
It plays fine in the UK.
I'm not into soap operas or run of the mill TV junk.
In fact I don't even have a TV, and only occasionally watch DVD's on my laptop.
(TV is a depressing and corrupting influence which is little more than a marketing and propaganda tool)
Anyway this series was recommended to me by an Ex mormon friend who live in Utah.... Ex Mormon not Ex friend!
He said it might give some insight into the Utah experience for an outsider.
