4.0 out of 5 stars Fun but flawed, 31 May 2007
It took me a lot of listens to finally decide what I thought of this album. When I first started it up, having heard the first track 'Paralyzer' and being quite excited about the more funk based, bouncy style, I was initially disappointed. It seems that with this album the lyrics have taken a step backwards, they aren't as clever or as thoughtful as previously. There is far more repetition than I feel comfortable with, especially in an album that's only 41 minutes long, which makes it seem like there is a final heavier and faster song missing from the tail end of the album. This album is fantastic, period. There is a huge variation in between all the tracks on the album, right from the first engaging drum beats of 'The Package' to the the floaty drumming through "Gravity", achieved as much through the tempo and stylings of each song as the range of instruments and the sounds these instruments are used to create. I have all five major Feeder albums and I love all of them... and on this basis I can heartily recommend to anyone that you should get this album. Almost every song on here is fantastic (personally I'm not too keen on Suffocate, they should have put Cement on here instead, and Save Us isn't as good as the other new songs), and it shows the continued evolution of a great band. The only disappointing thing in my eyes is that more of the songs from Polythene and Yesterday Went Too Soon aren't included, but those that are really have been cherry-picked to give you (some of) the best ones from the albums (bar Suffocate). Pay special attention to the songs High and Yesterday Went Too Soon... they… Read more
