Mud, Muck and Dead Things: Campbell & Carter 1 by Ann Granger
This is in the classic whodunit style and is the sort of novel that makes my favourite bedtime read. A small group of suspects and lots of clues along the way without car chases or too much gory detail. A well crafted story.
Blotto, Twinks and the Ex-King's Daughter by Simon Brett

I love Simon Brett's ability to engage the reader in whatever he writes about but these characters didn't do it for me. Give me a contemporary murder mystery and not a pseudo Wodehousean tale.
The Strangling on the Stage (A Fethering Mystery) by Simon Brett
Always a joy to read simon Brett. This was no exception and the class is in the well crafted style that turns a gentle tale into a real page turner.
