For anyone like myself who enjoyed the anime's but doesn't speak Japanese these translated novels are most welcome. Now we can finally read the source materials allthough i can't say how accurate the translation is.
This is the novel the anime from the 80's was adapted from. It tells the story of D being hired by Doris Lang to kill the vampire Count Magnus Lee. The setting for the story is a post apocalyptic future that vampire's had ruled for 10'000 years but are now in decline.

Ghost In The Shell - Stand Alone Complex - Vol. 1 &hellip DVD ~ Atsuko Tanaka

The best parts of the 1st ghost in the shell film was the chase through the market and motoko's fight with the tank. With stand alone complex Production ig have bottled those kind of action thrills into short sharp episodes while still retaining good intelligent sci - fi storylines. This series seems far closer to its manga source than the feature film, i allways felt Motoko and Batou's characters were too depressed in the film compared to shirow's stories. If you love shirow's books then you should definitely check this out, but also fans of the film can also get into this but it doesn't seem to fit in with the timeline of the 1st and upcoming 2nd film.
