The Snowman by Raymond Briggs
The Snowman by Raymond Briggs

This is a lovely book to share with a small child, and has solid board pages so is satisfying for them to turn themselves. It is not the same story as the original, so no visit to the North Pole is included, no Father Christmas nor snowmen party, not even any flying. This renders any connection with the song 'I'm Walking in the Air' meaningless. But the little pictures are great for talking about and to get the child used to extracting information from the page. A bit disappointing if you are expecting the full story, but a worthwhile gift for a toddler all the same.
The Snowman Mug and Coaster Set
5.0 out of 5 stars Snowman porcelain, 19 Jan 2011
Charmingly but solidly packaged, the mug is fine china and so is the coaster. Not ideal if you want to give to very small children, unless supervised, but lovely for them to look at nevertheless. If you are a Raymond Briggs' Snowman fan, you'll love it. The coaster has a different picture on it from the one on the mug.

4.0 out of 5 stars 2 days in Ghent, 15 Aug 2010
This book gave an extremely brief pen-picture of Ghent, but it was a great starting point. I did not see Bruges this visit but did go to Brussels, and this time it was very helpful re: museums, places to visit etc. I suppose the clue was in the title, but it would have been nice to have a little more than 4 pages of coverage for Ghent. The pictures and photos were up to the usual excellent DK standard, and it's a good size to put into the bag, but a bit heavy for the pocket.
