The Incredible Journey of Mary Bryant [DVD] [2005]&hellip DVD ~ Romola Garai

I found this series really gripping from start to finish, and thoroughly enjoyed it mostly because I'm a big romantic and I absolutely loved Will Bryant ("They said we'd never see the sun down here, but there you are")!! The acting was terrific, there's a great 'girl power' theme going on, and there were some truly emotional scenes that moved me to tears! It's not all romance and tears though, there's a fair bit of action going on, what with Mary's escape from the island and her being on the run! I would definitely recommend it to anyone who likes a bit of romance and adventure.

5.0 out of 5 stars Terrific gangster tale, 31 Mar 2006
This film is the most atmospheric movie I've ever seen, and is just a brilliant film to watch if you like the gangster genre. I love the way you watch the characters as both kids and adults, and at 3 hrs (aprox) you really feel like you've been on a long journey with them, which is a feeling you don't get very often with a film - not like this, anyway. The actors Robert De Niro and James Woods do a great job, I particularly like James Woods' performance. The music is just beautiful, and is a big part of that atmosphere. Brilliant stuff.

I wasn't expecting much from this film - which is good, because I didn't get much. It was basically just..dull. There wasn't any humour (not as far as I could see anyway, and I'm usually quite easily pleased when it comes to jokes!), and there wasn't really much romance.. so basically I wouldn't waste your time watching this and definitely not your money buying it! Watch She's All That or Never Been those are great examples of how this genre *should* be done!
