The book seems to go out of its way to punish Margaret for daring to give up her teaching job and try something else. She is unable to get tutoring work and when she tries to get her old job back, a mix-up means she does not know it has been handed to someone else. She is, however, an idiot, expecting to conjure a fully fledged writing career out of nothing, despite being academically intelligent.

Utterly miserable and unconvincing. It depresses me even thinking about it.

This is an excellent film, but on watching the DVD I was immediately putin the wrong frame of mind for such a laid back movie.
The reason? TEN MINUTES of unskippable trailers for dreadful films and copyrightwarnings before the first menu is reached. Totally unacceptable for apurchased DVD.

4.0 out of 5 stars well written songs, 18 Aug 2003
What surprises about this album is not that the covers are amusing (Prince's 1999 is particularly good), but that the arrangements are so well written and performed by himself and the backing singers. Mr Flowers is clearly an accomplished musicican and this really shows on his excellent original material on this album. The song about his romance with a crusty girl is simultaneously silly and very touching.
