The novel gave me plenty to think about as well as being a great page turner. It's a pretty direct commentary on army involvement in peace keeping from someone who seems to have lots of inside knowledge. The format worked well and gave the reader sympathy for all those caught up: UK soldiers, insurgents and the host population. Well done Mr (Major?) Newcombe.

It was exciting finding such a great new author. It reminded me of Robert Harris because I was learning AND having a great time with an increasingly gripping plot in the company of enjoyable characters. In this case the world I learnt about was that of art, painting, forgery and the detection of forgery. The thriller aspect was fun, I felt it did not treat itself too seriously, which was spot on.

I 100% agree with Bill Bryson himself as quoted on the cover: "Terrific! ..... fascinating and useful and enjoyable all at the same time"
