Father Brown has been done before, but when I saw that Mark Williams was cast in the role, I thought he would be perfect and he is. Even in regular DVD the scenery is beautiful (on a large screen no less) and the characters are intriguing, especially the basic cast. Having lived as a Catholic in the fifties (though across the pond) I don't see any errors in accuracy. I also love the pace and the lack of blood and gore. But I especially like Father Brown's concern for the soul of the murderer as well as the good guys. When this set came I sat down to watch it immediately because it was a blind buy. This is a movie I have spent years looking for. I remember it from long ago and Peter Wimsey is a character I have always liked. So I was delighted to discover it a month ago on amazon.uk. I bought a region free player and it played really well for a 70 year old movie even on a large HD screen. It was as good as I remembered it. Robert Montgomery was an interesting Wimsey. I have since seen better renditions of Wimsey, but the banter between Montgomery and Constance Cummings did justice to the Wimsey/Vane relationship. Aladdin has always been a favorite of mine but seeing it now as it was originally meant was a real treat. Highly recommended.
