Completists have probably never had it so good: for me this was the fifth large vocal collection of earlier generations of singers I managed to acquire, previous ones being those of Callas Studio Recitals =box=, Caballé Original Jacket Collection [15cd], Domingo Placido Domingo: The Album Collectionand Pavarotti Pavarotti Studio Albums, in each of which I discovered lots of sublime music and music-making previously unknown to me--not so with this… Read more

First things first, those interested in Baroque/ Rococo/ Classic vocal repertoire need not hesitate. It may be slightly difficult to pigeonhole the style, but it is a disc of delightful rarities by a virtually unknown composer whose recorded works are unlikely to be found elsewhere. Reyner Banham: Historian of the Immediate Future by Nigel Whiteley
Although I slightly knew Banham before I started my PhD, it was only then that the interesting parallels between his thought and those of 1990s techno-enthusiast thinkers was brought to my attention. There is, however, a lot more to this book than a genealogy of modern architectural technophilia. It not only offers the reader a comprehensive study of Banham's development without becoming too biographical, but also can be read as a valuable survey of post-war architectural thought taking the reader through `the mechanical sensibility' to `popular desires and rough poetry' and `science for kicks', to cite but a few of the book's chapter titles.
