How The Light Gets In (Chief Inspector Gamache) by Louise Penny
I have long been a fan of Armand Gamache, Three Pines and its delightfully quirky inhabitants. I couldn't wait to get my hands on this book, the ninth book in the series. It is, quite simply, superb: suspenseful, haunting, humane and ultimately incredibly uplifting. I wept buckets! Louise Penny has an amazing gift for creating characters that you genuinely care about, 'real' people who leap off the page. I cannot recommend this book highly enough, but agree with other reviewers who have said that although How the Light Gets in can be read as a standalone novel, it is best to read the previous instalments of the series first.
