This, the Samaritans Secret, is the third in his series of Palestinian noir novels featuring history teacher Omar Yussef. This novel is set in the West Bank town of Nablus, home to the ancient Samaritan sect, and much affected by the second Intifada.

It does, however provides a sensitive and fascinating portrait of Palestinian life and culture, both at grassroots and the political level, imaginatively evoking the smells, food and customs of the casbah, cafes and bathhouses. Omar Yussef literally searches high and low for the money and to unveil the murderer - from the depths of the casbah and underground passages to Mount Jerizim, home of the Samaritans. Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
Reckless government spending, the economy in meltdown, a floundering prime minister ... in 1974 this all led to the infamous three-day week, when emergency electricity restrictions forced people to work by lamp or candlelight, if they worked at all. Customer review from the Amazon Vine Programme (What's this?)
This is the true story of 13 ordinary women, and one amazingly surreal adventure. The Necklace is the amazing true story of thirteen women who don't want to give up on their dreams. They club together to buy a diamond necklace, agreeing that each of them will get it for four weeks at a time. They meet every month to find out what the necklace has been up to. The Necklace is the story of how an object of desire became a catalyst for connection, friendship and more. It's like Calendar Girls, only maybe a bit more glamorous, glitzy and sparkling.

For a complete cynic, this book was a revelation, an inspirational story about friendships, fun, adventure and human bonding. The cover… Read more
