I love everything about this lady's voice. She has a wide range and brings a warmth and passion to her performance that few can match. This album pays tribute to her love for Spanish Zarzuela and to the Gypsy way of life. It contains several famous songs from Carmen (including two different versions of the Habanera) and I loved it from start to finish. A worthy addition to her growing collection of recordings, I can't wait for her next album. Buy and enjoy the music and the passion!
Masterpieces Of The British Museum [DVD]

A series of six DVD's, dealing with six wellknown (and perhaps slightly less wellknown) masterpieces of the museum. These DVD's provide interesting background information on the history, manufacture, interpretation and discovery of the objects. Commentary is provided by the museum's experts. I found them excellent value for money, recommended for anyone with a love for history and a desire to learn just a bit more about these vanished civilizations. The subjects are:

The head of an Ife king from Nigeria
The Assyrian lion hunt reliefs
The Lewis chessmen
The Aztec double-headed serpent
Durer's Rhinoceros
The Sutton Hoo helmet

As in Monserrat"s excellent novel, the main heroes are the ships and the perfectly ordinary men who sailed in them. At times, it is almost like watching a documentary, much more powerful and convincing then some trumped-up, glorified version of this epic battle could ever be. Starting in 1939 with a Royal Navy and a massive influx of amateur sailors and officers that are completely unprepared for what lies ahead, we follow… Read more
