Layer Cake [DVD] [2004] [2005] DVD ~ Daniel Craig
Layer Cake [DVD] [2004] [2005] DVD ~ Daniel Craig
4.0 out of 5 stars Bond Audition ?, 27 April 2014
I really liked Layer Cake. It had a strong cast and I liked the portrait of a business man/ villain that Daniel Craig seemed fit into like a glove. The editing of the opening scene with Craig in a pharmacy was reminiscent of the panning scene from Notting Hill where Hugh Grant walks through the market with the four seasons passing him by.
A lot of people seemed to slag Layer Cake of as being the limp end of the plethora of Brit gangster films. I strongly disagree. I also like the scene where Craig is given a gun from Colum Meaney and apes some cool gun totting 007 moves. It's not to big a stretch that it was his performance here that got him the part of Bond. Just a thought.

After watching the first series of Downton in pretty much one sitting on a very miserable Sunday I was desperate for series two. I bought the set from Amazon, great price incidentally almost six pounds cheaper than anywhere else.
From reading some of the negative reviews printed here I really dont understand them. I think both the scripts and the production values stand up well with the first series. The performances are as good so the negativity is a surprise to me. I suppose it would be a strange old world though if we all thought the same. I really dont think I would ever describe myself as a compulsive viewer of anything but I find this drama series utterly riveting. Some people… Read more

Downton Abbey is without question the best tv drama ITV have produced since Brideshead Revisited. My girlfriend bought me the complete series one from amazon. Best gift ever. The series is visually stunning and the character development is on a par with any classic feature film. The stellar cast are without exception uniformly excellent. As a study of the contrast between the lifestyles of those above and below stairs Downton Abbey beats Upstairs Downstairs hands down. The sensitive dialogue by Julian Fellows of Gosford Park fame is a delight, wit and charm runs throughout each episode. I had never watched the series on television but the buzz about how good it is, is everywhere. What… Read more
