Can't add much to the other reviews for this book.Presenters are treated as ordinary people with human failings like anyone else. Many behind the scene photos are in the book which is a real treat and as someone in their late forties it's gratifying to read that the glory years of Val,John and Peter really were better than later combinations of presenters...and there we were blaming those rose coloured specs!! One little criticism could be that as Biddy Baxter had a hand in this book she appears generally in a good light when it is common knowledge that the early presenters lived in dread of the lady .
Most people buying this book would be Blue Peter fans...for anyone else it would be a case of Peter Who? Some reviews have commented on Peter's lack of memory regarding parts of his life but this is unfair as he recalls many names and shows from many years ago during a busy career. What is apparent however is that his post Blue Peter days, although seemingly successful, have been rather mundane and second rate. Peter Purves comes across as a nice sort of bloke with burst pipes, burgled homes and useless builders like we have ourselves. This seems to conflict with the memories of us forty somethings who used to watch him avidly on Monday and Thursday evenings!
