RAK's Greatest Hits ~ Various Artists
RAK's Greatest Hits ~ Various Artists
Mickie Most owned RAK records which started off life in 1970. Before then he produced a number of well known songs which the first five tracks represent some of the best. Lulu's 'To Sir with love' theme topped the charts in the states but was relegated as a B side over here in the UK. Madness. The song is timeless....

As the RAK era commences, the tracks are ordered more of less in chronological order except for New World's 1971 hit 'Tom Tom Turnaround' being bizarrely placed between early 80s 'Kids in America' by Kim Wilde and 'Classic' by Adrian Gurvitz. Some of the best of RAK is indeed on offer here with no1. hits from Mud (Tiger Feet), Hot Chocolate (So you win again) and… Read more
David Essex - Greatest Hits ~ David Essex
4.0 out of 5 stars Good 79 minutes, 26 Jan 2013
You couldn't cram much more onto a cd than the amount of music on offer here. David Essex music featured on and off in my early life when I was unaware that David's producer Jeff Wayne would go on to produce the timeless 'War of the Worlds' album in 1978. I didn't even know that Jeff Wayne was David's producer until after WOTW. 'Rock On' came out when I had just finished primary school. It was top ten both here and in the USA, but it was the only US hit for David. What an intro and production! The two number one hits 'Gonna make you a star' and 'Hold me close' featured in my younger years at secondary school. Then came Evita, Silver Dream Racer and the early eighties songs such as 'Me and… Read more

Classic Rock ~ The London Symphony Orchestra
5.0 out of 5 stars Classic Memories, 21 Jan 2013
At time of this records release I played in an Orchestra myself and would have loved to have tackled some of this material as well as the usual classical repertoire.

The record is timeless and it's one I have kept in my collection, and it still gets a play every now and then. I agree with the other reviewer that the 5 tracks on what was side 1 are all brilliant. Side 2 doesn't quite match the standards, although the take on 'Without you' is really moving. There are, what I consider a few spine tingling moments to note. The choir entry on 'Bohemian Rhapsody' in the middle just prior to singing "anyway the wind blows", the soothing strings and organ solo on 'Whiter shade of pale'… Read more
