Why We Dream: The Definitive Answer by Joe Griffin

Dreaming is surrounding in 'woo' thinking, but this book succinctly explains in solid scientific terms why we dream, how we can easily understand what our dreams mean and how dreaming is vital to our mental health.

And if you think the REM state is simply a reading on a polysomnogram that shows when a sleeping person is dreaming - then think again!

As well as explaining the true relevance of this fascinating brain mechanism, the dream theory (the expectation fulfilment theory) outlined in this book also has astonishing implications for understanding depression and psychosis.

I read this over two evenings and will read it again at the weekend. It's a short book but in it, by looking at the natural world with eyes unhindered by reductionist dogma, I think the authors have managed to answer questions that have baffled thoughtful people everywhere. If you want to know why so many people are unhappy and what to do about it, or wished you could understand the essential law of all living things, or the amazing implications of discoveries in quantum physics, it's all here in these beautifully written, moving, thought provoking and inspiring pages. Some passages are jewels of such wisdom and insight they took my breath away.

This is a book to set you on a life long journey, it poses and succinctly answers the profound questions we have all contemplated and, like a river flowing smoothly downstream, leads the marveling reader through an incredible mental landscape.

Combining history, psychology and physics it culminates in a game… Read more
