4.0 out of 5 stars A good film, 31 Jan 2011
This is an excellent film with some very good characterisation. Malamadre is a very believable character for his situation, being both sentimental, after his fashion, and with an instant ON switch for violence.

The journey of the character Juan Oliver is totally credible within the context of the story.

THe only thing that prevents the fifth star are a couple of things Juan's wife Elena does, which don't quite gel with her own situation.

I read 80% of this before giving up.

Firstly the straw man characters driving either side towards war are so, so obvious and in some case more strawman than the scarecrow from the Wizard of Oz.

the next thing was the slow, slow pace. Maybe it was to give the reader an appreciation of the long distances involved, but it was DULL. Most of the book seems to be a discussion in logistics. Well, it isn't too dissimalar to the logistics of the Honorverse and it was getting over used there, here it is even MORE drawn out and dull.

Give me characters I can care about, at least one or two, don't make the others so one dimensional the flatlanders think they are dull,… Read more
