Montgomery Clift: A Biography by Patricia Bosworth
Montgomery Clift: A Biography by Patricia Bosworth
4.0 out of 5 stars A good read, 5 Dec 2013
A revealing portrait of Montgomery Clift's life. Well written and clear, it portrays the conflicts in his life and how his maternal upbringing so badly damaged him in adulthood, leading to him effectively pressing the self-destruct button by his heavy consumption of drink and prescribed drugs. Quite harrowing at times, it is a frank but often sympathetic account of his life in the spotlight in 1940s and 50s USA and a cautionary tale for others in the same situation now. Worth reading, particularly for older cinema fans.

A book that is, mostly, very well written and a thoroughly enjoyable read. It paints a very good picture of Ms Bacall's long and amazing life in the spotlight.

June Brown is a superb actress and the book is very interesting. However, the publishers (or whoever sub-edited it for her) have done her no favours at all. There are numerous repetitions of facts in it and, consequently, it comes across as very rambling and jumps about through time very annoyingly. Much as I enjoyed reading about her very interesting life, I can't recommend it as a good read. Disappointed.
