Once, when I was a child, my imaginary friend Mr. Sniffles gave me some advice. "Doctor," he said, "beware the coming of the Overlords. Also, you should review Monsieur Archer's new book, in early 2013."

It occurred to me this morning that early 2013 had arrived, just like almost all of my armoured homing pigeons. (What had taken them so long? Why do their conversations always end suddenly when I enter the room?) I put aside my current project, a 5000 piece jigsaw puzzle depicting a giant automaton fighting an army of clones of Paul Daniels, put on my book-trousers, and settled down to read.
