The Rosie Project: Don Tillman 1 by Graeme Simsion
One of the best bits of fiction I have read in a long time! I loved this book so much, it's so funny and charming. It's a book, it's prose - but reading it is a bit like seeing a movie come to life - it's very filmic, a real romantic comedy with a few excellent set-pieces - I still laugh at the cocktail waiting 'scene' and can see this as clearly as if I'd watched a movie so I am looking forward to seeing the film which I imagine is in the pipeline. Being an E4 viewer, at first I imagined Don and Rosie as Sheldon Cooper from Big Bang and the brunette 2 Broke Girls girl, but as the book goes on, the characters are more fleshed out and this sort of wore off. Believe the hype - a feel… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Cracking read., 15 Sep 2014
Listeners of Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo's 5Live Show will have probably long since read this, the show being a weekly highlight of mine - listening to the podcast in the early hours of the morning whilst mindlessly playing games on my laptop - or 'double geeking' as I call it. Regardless of whether or not you agree with his tastes, I think you listen to or read Mark Kermode because you feel you have come across a bit of a kindred spirit.

This is my favourite of his books, but, y'know, I've hoovered them all up. The topics are interesting and sometimes fun… Read more

Loved, loved this film - a feast for the eyes with great perfomances, especially Ralph Fiennes, who I hadn't realised was such a great, funny character actor. Visually, as you would expect with Wes Anderson, the film is stunning, the hotel looks like a huge opulent cake, but there's a lot more to the film than looks - it works: it's funny, it's got heart. and is very much a case of both style and substance is large measures. Despite there being a lot of well-known faces, the characters are well-drawn - Tilda Swinton is practically unrecognisable! I hadn't expected to like this so much as I wasn't a big Wes Anderson fan before, but I feel converted to his indie whimisical, symmetrically… Read more
