The Rubbish Lesbian: Selected Columns by Sarah Westwood
What a fantastic read. It's rare to find a genuine literary talent who is also screamingly funny, but Sarah Westwood is both. Her subject may be lesbianism but her appraisal of life's awkwardnesses is universal. I urge everyone who appreciates great writing and likes to laugh out loud to read this. I just hope she writes a novel.

Alain's latest has all the charms and strengths of his other work. It is lucid, funny and perceptive. It genuinely made me think about the way I consume media - and made me want to be a lot more careful! Highly recommended.

I don't usually write reviews but felt compelled to now as I absolutely loved this book. It's erudite, witty, imaginative and packed with great ideas. I'm an atheist who has often been drawn to aspects of religion, but couldn't really articulate why. In clear, illuminating prose, this wonderful book has explained what the attractions of religion might be for the likes of me and also given me loads of food for thought. It's also a very human book and ultimately very consoling.
