I bought this to refresh my memory about website design. I have a lot of experience with HTML4 and I was looking to get back into coding, but with HTML5 and more CSS. This book is far too simple for me, but for an absolute beginner up to "familiar but not confident", it is exceptionally good. I'm sure I'll be lending it to friends!

The layout is very clear and it is carefully written in a non-patronising style. There are chapters that deal with many aspects of design and layout that would not be obvious to the everyday web user, but that make complete sense when you think about your experience of good and bad sites. I have only had one jam, and this was because I hadn't fed the material far enough under the foot. There is a good range of feet, including one very big, spring-loaded presser, and the feed copes easily with four layers of denim, producing straight runs of even-length stitches. The reverse lever is wide and easy to use without slipping.

There 14 settings: 3 for button holes, 2 zigzag, 1 long straight, 2 short (one offset), 1 multi stitch zigzag and 5 hemming/decorative stitches. There is no… Read more
