1* - in the immortal words of Dorothy Parker: "This is not a novel to be tossed aside lightly. It should be thrown with great force."
2* - not a great read but I lack the urge to throw the book

Interests
I'm a particular fan of Urban Fantasy but will read almost anything. The only books I don't often read are more literary fiction.

A Left-hand Turn Around the World: Chasing the Mys&hellip by David Wolman
The number of words used to describe left-handedness that have negative connotations are rife. This is the story of one lefties trip to try to find out the why of left-handedness and if humans are unique.

His conclusion? That the scientists are still kinda stumped and unsure what's the reasoning but that some of them are arguing that handedness is a spectrum rather than a fixed thing.

For a leftie it's interesting, for everyone it has something to say. Assumption is interesting and it's also a situation that until people stop trying to force people to use particular hands for tasks we will not really understand it properly.
Skin Deep: The Essential Guide to What's in the To&hellip by Pat Thomas
4.0 out of 5 stars Earlier work updated, 3 Jul 2009
This is a shorter book than many of Pat's other titles this one concentrates on cosmetics and toiletries. It does re-iterate some of the points made in earlier books but it does feature an updated list of more "green" cosmetic companies who have lower or no-harmful chemicals in their formulations. I'm not going to say "no chemicals" as I was a science student once and do understand that everything is chemicals!

If you want to go greener this is a useful tool to investigate those things that might be useful. If you've read other books by Pat Thomas this might feel a little repeditive.
Drop Dead Gorgeous: Protecting Yourself from the H&hellip by Kim Erickson
This is a US publication, looking mostly at US products and companies, some of which are worldwide. Some of the language used is quite general (may, might and other words like that) there are no guarantees in this world when it comes to chemicals and if you have a better idea of what you're using on yourself you might have a better hope of understanding what's happening if things go wrong. If you're trying to be healthier and eat healthier maybe you should also look at what you're putting on the outside of your body and ask if you're absorbing something that won't help.

This is one of the books to use to guide you, it goes through various body parts (skin, hair, face etc.)… Read more
