Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn
As thrillers go this clear-voiced tale from the dexterous Gillian Flynn is an absorbing read with just the right amount of tension. I got through it in a few days and was engaged from page one - which is increasingly rare! The writing is tight and the narrative voice clear from the off - depending on which narrator you're locked into that is...The structure plays with omnipresence and reliability throughout and comments on concepts of love, loyalty and emotional blackmail in an incisive manner. This collection is worth every penny. It brings together John le Carre, definately best in class, with the BBC, and demonstrates what radio drama can really be. The production values are superb and the casting inspired. Without doubt Alec Guinness sticks in the mind as the most memorable Smiley to grace our TV screens but here Simon Russell Beale redefines the role. Beale is the best Smiley on any platform right now and the whole series shows just how good radio dramatisation can be. Smiley's inner life is cleverly revealed and his tormented relationship with his sometime wife Ann is brilliantly realised through Anna Chancellor's haunting voice over's. The complexity of Smiley's loyalities… Read more

It is exactly what it says on the tin - a HAND BLENDER. It's superb for soups and much more convenient to blend the soup in the pan when it's cooled a bit, than to do all the washing up caused when we use the magi-mix (which isn't that good for large quantity soup - it's not meant to be). When we're not in the mood for getting all the big kit out, this does the job perfectly. When we bought it we felt a bit guilty about what it cost but it has earned it's keep several times over. It's great for the smaller scale stuff and it's… Read more
