In My Own Words:
Like Roger Ebert, I am a frustrated film writer. My unsold script, Cannery Row, later became a film based on two different Steinbeck novels. John Huston narrated it. Why couldn't he have directed it instead? Merciless amazon reviewers praise its merits only because they know David S. Ward's script was produced instead of mine. I think Mr. Stienbeck himself would not recognize his film story if … Read more

Sex Bomb: The Life and Death of Anna Nicole Smith by D'Eva Redding
Eric and Eva Redding tend to get preachy at times playing moral umpires that want to judge foul or fair when Smith strikes out in the ball park of life. In disputes with her maids and bodyguards, who was telling the truth and who was lying? Wasn't her overeating, overspending, and drug abuse awful? But should we trust a sermon from the photographer and the talent scout that first discovered Anna Nichole Smith for a Playboy centerfold and made her Brooke Shields-type face and Jayne Mansfield figure so famous? Camping Cosmos (with English subtitles) [DVD] <b>DVD</b> ~ Jean-Henri Compère
Ripe political satire is experienced in camping Cosmos during 1986 where the apathetic beach campers are more interested in the beauty contest, the closeted gay exercise coach, eating french fries and watching soccer games on the big screen TV than the tirades of a visiting writer along with a frustrated anarchist and his former girlfriend who is also a terrorist sympathizer. The writer gets a pie in his face in a radio interview and the anarchist finally gets a hearing of his propaganda between rounds of a boxing match. Two youngsters fall in love at a sweethearts dance. Of course, the big draw to this film is a brief appearance of late adult film star Lola Ferrari who made the Guinness… Read more
The Party's Over (BFI Flipside) (DVD + Blu-ray) <b>Blu-ray</b> ~ Oliver Reed
4.0 out of 5 stars The editing confuses, 28 Nov 2013
Includes some deleted or censored scenes. A party scene creates a splash because it implied sex with someone dead. In the context of the film, the drunken partiers were unaware of her fall off the staircase, and thought the girl had passed out. It's very hard to believe the censors were given a script and practically helped plot and shape the film as much as the film makers themselves. It's an interesting piece of film history and you see Oliver Reed in one of his first film parts.
