Ziegfeld: The Man Who Invented Show Business by Ethan Mordden
I really enjoyed this book - coming from a long haul through Claire Tomalin's biography of Dickens - which is an assault of names coming at you on every page - this is a lot more readable and sets the scene nicely about the theatrical era Ziegfeld worked in. Sure, there is a lot about Broadway history, but if you are stepping into this world, then it is an education to see how the theater system worked.

The only criticism I would have is that it was short on pictures. But hey, let's not go to the extreme of Lauren Redniss's biography of 'The Century Girl' which is all pictures and looks like it was thrown together as a first year college art project - which accidentally got… Read more
