Confluence - The Trilogy: Child of the River, Anci&hellip by Paul McAuley
Just dull.. Have struggled as far as the third book and wish I could finish it and get on with something worth reading. Reminds me a little of third book of Gormenghast, where a big sprawling world is described in huge detail but ..why ? The detail just is like listening to the worlds most boring man on his pet subject. The plot, if there is one, is stretched so thin as to barely exist. The characters are also unengaging and the cosmology seems to amount to "there's no intelligent life in the nearby galaxies so the universe is so bland most transcendants just kill themselves."
Cibola Burn: Book Four of the Expanse series by James S.A. Corey
There is a large-canvass space opera as the backdrop but the authors seem to have decided it is only at the level of human relationships that the reader can be engaged. The result for me is a miss. You spend time being annoyed at how bad the really-really-bad guys are behaving towards the really-really good guys. This is engagement, but on a very superficial level. The opportunity of writing about the future, the technologies, the politics, the galaxy, the conflicts, seem to have been ignored.
PICNIC TABLE - PUB STYLE BENCH - 6FT - BROWN - HEA&hellip by Rutland County Garden Furniture
4.0 out of 5 stars Nice solid bench, 2 Aug 2014
This arrived when they said and was OK to assemble. I needed a G-cramp as well as the obvious screw driver. The end result is a nice solid (heavy) bench.
