Hailing from the grand citadel of Huddersfield and a generic way to start this review, Isen Torr are an actual British band who play actual heavy metal, which is pretty exciting to me. Make no mistakes about it they are epic with a capital E, but you even see the E because it's positioned somewhere on the highest mountain wielding a broadsword that's glistening in the sun, you can see that... but not the E.

Isen Torr's sound comes across as a more sincere and earnest Grand Magus - I'm thinking Wolf's Return onwards, here - and given that this EP predates that album perhaps GM pinched a bit of this style. It's traditional heavy metal played with a couple of modern twists; for… Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Stay Invictus, kids!, 4 Jan 2009
I'm not entirely sure why I don't love this one as much as the others... it's surely a fantastic record. Maybe it's because at times Defeis accents the vocals in a manner similar to Sam S@nkeeyy (spelled incorrectly so he can't google his name and hunt me down and then grapple me his fat, sweaty palms). Still, wonderful stuff on display here - perhaps the heaviest and most direct work in the Church of Latter Day Virgin Steele. Pursino plays guitar, Frank hits the drums in his unrestrained manner yet and Defeis crowns and anoints himself… Read more

It was a dark day in Scotland when I re-discovered the vague and distant glories of `Day of Reckoning', the Irn Bru had turned from a sickly ginger to a shade of crimson, the locals with their fish-like faces puckered up in the cold, adopted a solemn and foreboding mood - in stark contrast to their usual drunken joviality. I was alone again with the Pentagram... and Holy Sepulchre was it frightening!

Long ago, I had neglected `Day of Reckoning' for its sibling, `Be Forewarned' (which to be frank is a thundering beast with sixteen hooves that will frankly slaughter any doom album outside of Sabbath's first six). Although `Day of Reckoning' is merely sulking amongst the tombstones… Read more
