Mousetrapped: A Year and A Bit in Orlando, Florida by Catherine Ryan Howard
3.0 out of 5 stars A fun memoir, 15 Mar 2011
A fun little memoir about an Irish girl working in Orlando, Florida. This is not a book about an Irish girl working for the Disney corporation as the blurb on the back of the book would make you think. It's well written and her enthusiasm for all things American is infectious. It'll have you craving for a Starbucks and a trip to Orlando.

The Saffron Gate is the first novel i've read by Linda Holeman & it was utterly fantastic! Following the story of Sidonie O'Shea, who crippled at 16 from Polio falls in love with Etienne, the doctor who helped her recover from a terrible accident. Etienne mysteriously disappears from Albany, New York leaving only a letter behind for Sidonie to find. Going against everything she believes, Sidonie braves herself for the unknown and heads off to Morocco to find Etienne. What follows then is a wonderful insight into life in Morocco in the 1930s and the Arab world. Truly captivating and engaging, i couldnt bare to put this down! A must read!

3.0 out of 5 stars Surprisingly good, 17 May 2008
Told by John Jacob Turnstile, a young lad with a history of problems, who one day gets caught for stealing a pocket watch from a gentleman. Turnstile get the opportunity to either spend 1 year in jail or join the crew of the Bounty, a ship that is sailing to the island of Tahiti to collect Breadfruit. On board Turnstile is the servant to Captain Bligh, a man who shown to have a bad temperment at times, but is one of the fairest Captains of the times. The crew face trials and tribulations as they make their year long journey to Tahiti and it is when they reach the island that problems arise.

This is a surprisingly well told version of the mutiny on the Bounty. Enjoyable.
