4.0 out of 5 stars GOOD, BUT..!, 25 May 2014
Having accidentally stumbled across the orange version, (see below), tried it and absolutely LOVED it - go read my review if you don't believe me! - I then decided to give this black variety a go. Result: I have to admit, I was (slightly) disappointed. Don't get me wrong, it's good - nice smell, long lasting - but, after setting the bar so high with its stable-mate, this one was always going to have to be something very special indeed to come out on top. And, I'm afraid, it doesn't quite manage it. Orange has a really sweet, spicy scent; it smells more expensive than it is. All right, I'm a sci-fi buff! It's just such a flexible medium. Action, comedy, morality tale: you can tell absolutely any kind of story using sci-fi. And that is just what GRAVITY does. At the cinema this film was amazing, of course it was. How could it not be? A real feast for the eyes; the ultimate popcorn movie. But down here on DVD it magically becomes a different experience. There's a story here; a moral. And for me that moral is all about dealing with the 'rubbish' that life throws at us. We, like Sandra Bullock's character, have a choice: we either curl up and die, or we fight back and win. (Hope I didn't spoil the ending there for anyone!)
For a two-hander the performances in… Read more
