The Manga Guide to Databases by Mana Takahashi
The Manga Guide to Databases by Mana Takahashi
This book, despite it's 'comical' appearance, is much more than a superficial pamphlet on database structure and querying - it is, in fact, very in depth and mindful of a best-practice approach to creating, organizing, and using databases. It comes with very clear descriptions and plenty of examples and quiz questions to help you get a firm grasp of the concepts.

Well worth picking up, and the perfect gift for the otaku geek in your life.

What's more, the book wastes a lot of pages by showing you the code output generated by a WYSIWYG creator without discussing it - why bother taking up six pages of code only to assume that I know what it means and not to discuss it anywhere?

However, this book teaches you how to create apps using web scripting languages and then compile them into Object C using PhoneGap so that you can package your apps for sale in iTunes. PhoneGap offers this same functionality for several other platforms, too. The book is brief and if you have any experience coding dynamic websites, you will get through the examples in no time.
