Quartet [DVD] DVD ~ Maggie Smith
Quartet [DVD] DVD ~ Maggie Smith
5.0 out of 5 stars A Golden Oldies film, 14 Aug 2013
I enjoyed this film because of the witty civilised dialogue and behaviour, It had plenty of humour with accurate characterisation and believable situations. Visually it was charming to watch and made for a comfortable, shareable afternoon's entertainment. Not for me " dark, gritty drama" I detest misery and violence and refuse to watch any film that contains it. Quartet was one of several films that have appeared in recent years that I anticipate enjoying more than once. Thus I bought the DVD.
Lifemax 250.1 Floor Standing High Vision Reading L&hellip by Lifemax
As an OAP my vision needs assistance particularly with reading and sewing. We have arrived at the time of the year when reducing daylight first starts to take effect.
It is wonderful to be able to switch off the TV when it becomes unbearably banal and depressing and return to my book or embroidery.
It was easy to assemble with the help of a kindly and competent neighbour, it is not too heavy to move about but still stable on the floor, and is unobtrusive in the decor. It will also be economical in use.
Verdi - La Traviata [Levine, Metropolitan Orchestr&hellip DVD ~ Teresa Stratas
I first saw this opera on TV when it first appeared and loved Zeffirelli's sumptuous direction of the first act and wanted to keep it permanently. I was given an alternative production of the same opera and there was no comparison with the brilliant staging.
The only downside for me was the dismal ending, which of course is the plot and purpose of the opera. Zeffirelli's production underline the contrasts and pathos of the story perfectly.
