4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting comedy, 12 Aug 2013
If you like Laura Dern I would certainly recommend Enlightened. At the start of the series her character is difficult to pinpoint, and not altogether likeable, but as the series develops it does not matter so much anymore. I thought Episode 9 "Consider Helen" was a small masterpiece, dealing with her mother (Diane Ladd) rather than with Dern. Enlightened is satirical and exposes work environment and relationship hypocrisies - with Mike White (writer of "The Good Girl") at the helm you'll find awkward and weird moments, not bombastic mainstream American humour. I would have rated it 4 and a half stars if I could.

4.0 out of 5 stars Solid, informative, 6 Nov 2012
Gives a very good historical account of the problems in Sierra Leone & Liberia in the 1990s, less on Angola which I was slightly more interested in. No mention of the fact that Firestones kept business running as usual throughout all the killing... maybe the producers didn't find that noteworthy (hey, Firestones don't mine diamonds, do they: therefore irrelevant)? This is also a very upsetting documentary, definitely not "family viewing" in my opinion, unless your kids can stomach severed hands and people getting shot in front of cameras.
Jerusalem: Chronicles from the Holy City by Guy Delisle
5.0 out of 5 stars his best book to date, 19 Oct 2012
Fantastic book! Well done Guy Delisle! This is his best book to date, get it and get to (finally) understand just what the hell's going down in Israel. 'Palestine' (by Joe Sacco) didn't do it for me, Delisle's approach is much clearer (and better drawn). Brilliant!
