Well, if you want to watch video with out-of-synch sound then stick with the freebie, if you fancy watching well presented video that is in-synch then maybe dig deep and fork out the three clams.
I will admit upfront to being a total convert to vertical grips, there is a reason that upper end, pro SLR's have built-in grips, they offer a massively improved shooting position when taking shots in vertical, on a long shoot it is a godsend, with long, handheld exposures you will throw your hands up in thanks.
So, the Canon OEM unit is pretty expensive, there are others that come in a lot cheaper. But, and this is a biggie, the build quality of this unit is exceptional, the clutched screw wheel is amazing, the grip itself is bombproof.

Make no bones about it, this may be a crop sensor but it as serious a bit of kit as you can get. I once heard someone describe this as a baby Canon EOS 1DX and that isn't far off the mark.
Alright some background, I come from owning an EOS 40D which was, and is, a cracking SLR that to me at least felt incredibly intuitive. Sadly, as with all cameras, it slowly fell behind the curve and 10 megapixels just wasn't quite making the grade.
