I saw the original version of 'Insomnia' at the cinema, and recently re-viewed it again on DVD.
Both the original and the US remake are good films in their own ways. Something that the Americans added, were stunning views of Alaska, something the Norwegians might have considered using to greater effect too. Though neither film really accentuated the disorientation of the midnight sun in either location.
When I saw the film in the cinema I never got any particular feeling for the Skaarsgard character 'going to pieces' due to insomnia.

There is something missing from all the other reviews here.

It's only taken me 30-odd years to get around to buying a copy of this piece of music.
Just why it is that some pieces of music stick with you is a mystery? (I always think of 'Shayla' or 'Union City Blue' by Blondie)
I know there are a lot of people who wouldn't like this because it is synth-based, or it isn't a fully developed theme. But, who cares? Enjoy what you do have. And what we have here is a piece of music with a lovely melodious theme running through it, and I am a sucker for expansive synth 'pads', which the backing is filled-out with.(I will even tolerate the 'squelchy-synth' in the middle section.)
(For other lovely 'Love Themes', try the one written by Mark… Read more
