OK - this book falls into a trap that a lot of vegan recipe books do - the photo's just dont make the recipes look sexy! I've tried a couple of the recipes - the black bean brownie recipe is great, but I have struggled to make it work (I have to cook this for an hour not 35 mins). I've tried a chili recipe - not to my taste - the outturned food just looks 'brown', and to be frank, the guac and hummus recipe you can get anywhere on line - I will keep it for the brownie recipe - but not sure about the rest. I personally prefer the taste of Isa Chandra Moskowitz recipes.

I've cooked around 15 recipes from this book - and each has a) worked b) been full of flavour. The Mushroom burger even fooled some meat eaters! Recipes are simple, well laid out and use readily available ingredients. They include both bean burgers and vegetable burgers, slaws and condiments (and even bread rolls).

3.0 out of 5 stars Self absorbed, 30 Oct 2013
Ok - I know it's autobiographical - but I expected more from this. It's lightweight, Scott Jurek is self absorbed - appears to be completely oblivious to the impact of his actions on other people, and ultimately annoyed the heck out of me. I expected there to be more about his journey to a plant strong life, and kept waiting for him to impart some guidance to some of the lesser mortals like me on how he trains and the nutrition that he uses (which is why I bought the book) - it never came. It's mostly about the trials in his life and how he's a great guy because he overcame. If I'd found this in a bookshop, then having flicked through it I would have put it down again.
