I got this for my Mum to use to backup her documents from her laptop. I'd been on at her for ages to backup her files but she's not that PC literate. She lived the simplicity of the stick and the fact that its so easy to backup her files. I installed the free SyncToy tool from Microsoft so she can control the copies and off she went. A year or so ago I decided I was going to read the collected fairy tales of the brothers Grimm in their original form. I started with good intentions, but the many variations on familiar themes gradually became irritating, as did the clunky translated storytelling.

What Philip Pullman has done is collect the best 50 of the stories and re-tell them in his own voice. What's exciting about that is that Pullman is one of the best storytellers of this, or any time. Self Help books are a huge industry attracting lots of people who fancy themselves as life coaches, trainers, gurus or consultants.
