There's a saying never judge a book by its cover.. On this occasion it don't jugs the book by the film. This's a far meatier story than the film allows you to see. The drug taking drink addled state of the various characters, twists of plot and story telling that make you cringe and laugh at the same time. The description of New York during the late 70's early 80's the change in culture style fashion even changes in drinking habits are emotive and all laid bare within these pages. I'd recommend this book to anyone with a passion. Anyone whose seen the film should read this book to get the REAL story of Brian the bartender

I defy anyone who listens to this and NOT b moved. The blend of voices from BERNARD CRIBBINS to JOANNA LUMLEY intermingled with the music adds even more power to the verse. It doesn't matter what you think about the current on going conflicts this will move you as it spans the generations of fallen soldiers from WW1 to Afghan.
I was particularly moved by HANNAH CARPENTER's poem as this describes exactly what my wife did when I went away on my tours of duty. She burst into tears the first time she heard that poem so a special thank… Read more
