Maybe I am bias, I have always enjoyed Rick James's music and it Raw element, his life is of social legend, including some Urban ones too. However what you learn via this book is not only a life of someone who never gave up, but against all the odds made a success of his life. Coming from not only poverty but extreme issues of persecution from neighbours who were members of the KKK to even when he became famous dealing with all the Mafia, Pimps, Pushers, hoes, BS of the music industry and everything else on top.

Bill Withers has written some of popular music genres best songs and still today you hear the influence on rhythm and blues and many other genres of music via his most memorable songs

Ain't no Sunshine, Lean on Me, Use Me, Harlem, Grandmas Hands, Who is he and who is he to you? and many more but not many people regard or know the majority of his own catalog as much as the songs or even many know about its high level of musicianship in the 70's compared to other soul/R&B legends.
