Mixing easy-listening synthesiser and reggae, this is one of the stranger examples of Trojan's increasingly desperate attempts to achieve mainstream success throughout the '70s. Star Trek may be viewed by more serious reggae fans as nothing more than a novelty, of little appeal outside the post-ironic loungecore set. One thing sets this collection apart from the usual 'The Ring Cycle goes Moog!' charity-shop fare: the excellent reggae rhythm tracks, plundered from Trojan's extensive back catalogue.
A lot of the tunes are recognisable (Laurel Aitken's 'Dracula, Prince of Darkness' being a personal favourite) and the synthesiser complements the sound without intruding too much. Think of… Read more
