Frasier - Season 9 [DVD] DVD ~ David Hyde Pierce
Frasier - Season 9 [DVD] DVD ~ David Hyde Pierce
Season Eight is often described as the weakest of Frasier's run, and though I agree to a certain extent, I enjoyed it for the most part, apart from the very boring and mildly pretentious 'Frasier's Edge', featuring Prof. Tewksbury (who inexplicably returns to hook up with Roz ... shudder). I thought Daphne's absence - due to Jane Leeves' real life pregnancy - was dealt with as well as possible, though her absence seemed to reverberate around the season and cast a bit of a dark light over it.

Anyway, on to Season 9 and hopefully an upward climb. It really is a roller-coaster ride of very good, mediocre and bad episodes. However 'bad' is in the sense of Bad Frasier, i.e. still… Read more

I initially decided on three stars for this Mikael Håfström - directed horror-thriller, but the more I delved into its ideas and positive aspects, the more I appreciated it.

1408 is most definitely typical Stephen King fare. I'd suggest reading the short story before seeing the film, though it's not strictly necessary since the plot can be described in a sentence or two - 'cynical writer with troubled past visits supposedly haunted places to disprove anything supernatural exists; this all changes when he visits hotel room… Read more

3.0 out of 5 stars Over-hyped?, 29 April 2006
After hearing that this film was a visual feast, featured a complex plot and was genuinely disturbing, I just had to see it.

I was quite disappointed. Although it certainly does contain some beautiful scenes, as well as some sick ones, other parts just made me laugh. I'm not sure why this film is described as 'disturbing'. Jennifer Lopez's acting creaked like one of those mutant dolls. And Vince Vaughan has never been a favourite of mine. Perhaps with different casting this could have been an extremely different film - even achieving classic status, but as it is, I simply didn't engage with it emotionally.

However I'd still recommend it for the art direction alone… Read more
