I actually contributed to the Unbounded campaign to get this lovely book published. I was so enamoured with the concept to pay enough to get not only a signed hardback, but a caricature of myself drawn by Mr Teal.

The book is a thing of beauty. The content is more or less what you might expect from an actual 18th century scandal sheet, with a nice line in 21st century reality. It's funny, scandalous, and great fun, especially if you like to see proper use of the long "s".[1] If you've ever seen any 18th century prints, you'll recognise the style. If I was more pretentious, I'd throw around words like "Hogarthian", but as I'm not, I'll just say that this is more fun than a box of… Read more
Science, Drugs, Spirits, and Irony by L. Dean Webb
Disclaimer: I've known Dean Webb for mumble years, in an on the internet way of knowing. We've done email, though not so much in recent years.

I have a Gaggia Baby Class D. Lovely machine, makes great espresso if you feed it Illy coffee, which I generally do. But a while ago, it started to have problems with pushing water through the head. I descaled it with the Gaggia powdered stuff, which made no difference at all. Hardly a trickle came through the brew head. I found this on Amazon a few days ago, and thought it was worth a try.

And it certainly was. After blasting some steam through the wand (which I don't normally use, as I'm a pure espresso kind of person), I pressed the manual button. There was a bit of noise, then water started to flow - at first a trickle, then a proper flow. Blockage cleared!

I'll be… Read more
