Corfu Villages by Steve Ford
Corfu Villages by Steve Ford
I declare an interest: I live in my Corfu family home of 40 years and have of course met the author in his conscientious mapping and meticulous recording of our beautiful, historical isle. Not since John Forte's magisterial contribution to our island lore have we been lucky enough to have an author with both love, industry and skill to map 'Prospero's Cell' with such an aesthetic eye. You can ignore most other books churned out to trap your wallet: Steve Ford is your man.

Thoroughly researched, fluent prose, filling a too-long-felt gap. Absolute winners.
The Ionian Islands and Epirus: A Cultural History &hellip by Jim Potts

The only book you'll need to guide you through the Eptanisos and Epirus, from the history and classical references to expert introductions to individual islands and how they have fared under foreign rule and occupations up to 'new perspectives' of our current day.

Writing of a very high calibre that brings to life the landscapes, legends, and historical events that have appealed to writers from all over the world, including Greece itself.

A sort of Kindle unplugged - everything in a single volume, made charming by an author who carries his immense learning lightly and whose gentle donnish voice is everywhere enlivened by the most wonderful apt quotes, from the Ancients… Read more

It made it so much easier to decide to buy the whole collection rather than take a chance just because of its cool design on the cover. Also it saves me quoting her wonderful use of language (and she's not even English - writes better than me!) I really connected with the emotions she expresses (and I'm not even a woman ... or effeminate). I look forward to reading the whole collection and judge the collection as a whole. You can tell that she has 'lived' what she writes about and is noty afraid to bare her emotions on the page. A true poet: "Oh my Ophelia, Prince Hamlet is already dead/In his own… Read more
