I know what the director of Young Adam was trying to say. Drifter ends up destroying everything around him, almost like a darker version of Alfie. However, despite the decent acting, good cinematography and haunting soundtrack from David Byrne, anything which could be described as a story is buried under too much pathos which is a pity considering the strong casting. Peter Mullen in particular, is wasted.
Young Adam isn't a bad film, but it moves at such a slow pace that you will soon stop caring about the truth behind the drowned woman (which I guessed fairly early on). There are so many sex scenes that it could even have been renamed 'Confessions of a barge worker'. These quickly… Read more
